The Assessment Process: A Compassionate Approach to Pelvic Health
Walking into an exam room for a pelvic floor evaluation can feel daunting—and for many women, the fear of feeling exposed or humiliated keeps them from seeking the help they need. At Sol Pelvic Health, I want to change that experience completely.
Pelvic health is deeply personal, and your comfort, trust, and autonomy are my top priorities. My approach is designed to honor your boundaries while providing the care and solutions you deserve. Here’s what you can expect from the assessment process with me:
A Judgment-Free Zone
The first thing I want you to know is this: your comfort comes first, always. Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, I take the time to explain every step of the process, ask for your permission, and ensure you feel in control.
This isn’t just about your pelvic health—it’s about your overall well-being. Humiliation has no place in this process. My goal is for you to feel respected, empowered, and cared for from start to finish.
The “Clothes-On” Approach
One of the unique aspects of my practice is that I can gather a wealth of information about your pelvic health without you ever needing to undress. Using a movement-based, clothes-on approach, I evaluate your:
Alignment: How your body is positioned can significantly impact your pelvic floor.
Posture: The way you sit, stand, and move affects how your core and pelvic floor function.
Breathing: Your diaphragm and pelvic floor work together in a dynamic system, and breathing patterns often reveal blind spots in that connection.
This initial assessment is often eye-opening for clients and provides valuable insights without requiring internal examination.
External Examination (Without Touch)
If you’re comfortable and it feels appropriate for your care plan, I can also conduct an external evaluation without touch. This involves observing muscle function, movement patterns, and posture from the outside. It’s a great option for clients who want more detailed feedback without feeling overexposed.
Internal Examination (Optional)
For those who are comfortable and consent to it, an internal examination can offer a deeper understanding of pelvic floor function. During this part of the assessment:
You will be undressed (and appropriately covered) only as needed.
I will explain every step in detail before proceeding.
You can stop or pause the assessment at any time.
Internal exams are completely optional. Many women achieve meaningful progress through external assessments and movement-based strategies alone.
Your Autonomy Matters
Throughout the process, I ask for your consent at every stage and respect your boundaries without question. If you feel unsure or want to change your mind at any point, that’s okay—you’re in control.
Why This Approach Works
The clothes-on, permission-based process I follow allows us to identify the root causes of your challenges in a way that prioritizes your comfort and trust. Whether we focus on alignment, posture, and breathing alone or incorporate an external or internal exam, the goal is always to help you feel confident and supported in your care.
